The Doors or Duars are the promontories of the Eastern Himalayas in northeastern India around Bhutan. Dooars means "door" and the region has become the gateway to Bhutan from India. There are 18 passages or gates through which Bhutanese can communicate with people living on the plains. This area is divided by the Sankosh River at the eastern and west Dooars. The Western Dooars are known as the Bengal Dooars and the Eastern Dooars as the Assam Dooars.
